2008 Awards Banquet

The 34th Annual Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame Banquet was held at the Holiday Inn in Painted Post on March 15, 2008 with a capacity crowd of over 300 in attendance. Master of Ceremonies, Steve Mandell opened the evening's festivities, and following the Procession of the new inductees, Directors Joe Ruocco and Bob Thompson offered the Invocation and Memorial to Deceased Members, respectively. President Ostebo introduced several special guests and welcomed everyone. During the dinner Power Point presentations with pictures from past Banquets were shown on two screens.

Assemblyman Jim Baccalles presented the George Bacalles Memorial Awards to 4 outstanding East/West senior athletes, and Sandy Ostebo recognized AJ Johnson and Kate Early for winning NY State Championship titles in Track & Field.

Margaret Tremaine, former long time coach at West High School, who led the Lady Vikings to a NY State Class B Championship in basketball in 1995, was the guest speaker. Marge was inducted into the C-PP Sports Hall of Fame as a contributor in 2000. She is the current Program Coordinator for the Town of Big Flats.

HOF Secretary, Larry French presided over the induction ceremony while all the guests sat back and enjoyed the often very humorous and emotional remarks by the inductees.

The evening came to a close with Mallorie Mandell leading everyone in singing God Bless America.

The 2009 Banquet will be on March 21, 2009 at CMOG (The Corning Museum of Glass)
